Greg Amanti is a master mold maker and stone carver. He trained at the two largest art foundries in the United States and has assisted Kiki Smith, Frank Stella and Stephen De Staebler. His work has shown at Fort Collins MoCA, RedLine Denver and the Miami Photo Salon, and he took the Photographers Forum Award of Excellence in 2020.

He describes his pieces as often starting with a misinterpretation — something misheard or half-seen, caught in a sketch. Then he leaves it. Weeks or months later he comes back and finds solutions that weren't there when he drew it. Then string, plaster, stone.

Bend Design commissioned him to build public interactive installations from 2016 to 2019, so the town has seen him do this before. He's building the summit installation with his wife, the artist Heather Crank.

You'll take away: a working demonstration of the slow method. Greg's process is the opposite of instant generation, and having both in one place is the best version of the argument we could stage.
